Behind the Music:

Bach-Friskin: Prelude to the Cantata “God’s Time is Always the Best Time.”
Some years ago after I had given a masterclass at a college somewhere down south, the harpsichord teacher asked me to accompany him to his studio. There, he gave me a copy of a Bach transcription by James Friskin of the Prelude to Bach’s Cantata, “God’s time is always the best time.” He told me that it was the most beautiful transcription he ever heard, and proceeded to play it for me on the piano. I simply melted on the spot. To this day, I consider it to be one of the most heartfelt and spiritual compositions I have ever heard.
